SUMBAWA BESAR TOURISM OBJECT

WEST SUMBAWA REGENCY
LEBO (LAKE) TALIWANG
3 km from Taliwang in western Sumbawa, Lebo (Lake) Taliwang is a wide lake of 856 ha, full of water lotus and it has special fish. Many people come to fish from small boats or just to relax.

MALUK AND SEKONGKANG
The area has developed incredibly since about 1995 with the construction and later operation of the Newmont Nusa Tenggara copper / gold mine extending more or less 30 km east of Maluk. The towns of Taliwang, Jereweh and particulary Malik have received direct and indirect benefits of housing, facilities, business and income entering the community. For example, there are ATMs banks, shops, health facilities, etc. perhaps at higher levels than anywhere elsi in Sumbawa.
Accomodation is available for tourists in the various hotels in Maluk and Sekongkang. There are numerous restaurants and entertainment facilities in these places.
Nearby, there is an airport located at Sekongkang, near to the Tropical Spa and Resort on Pesin Beach. Tropical Airstrip flights, which are daily between Denpasar and / or Mataram and Sekongkang, provide direct access to this area.

TALIWANG AND JEREWEH
Taliwang is the regency capital. The town has had much development recently following the construction and operation of the Newmont copper / gold mine near Maluk. The region is a significant farming area, with places of cultural and archeological interest and scenic coastal route to Jereweh.

SUMBAWA BESAR REGENCY

BATU BULAN DAM
Batu Bulan Dam Irrigation Project, with a total capacity of 54 million m3, is located in Sumbawa regency. It supplies water to an irrigation area of 5576 hectares (ha). The project contributes to the income generation of the farmers and development of the local community. It has become a popular local tourist spot and these are outlined for major tourism activities, including sailing, fishing, restaurants and cultural events.

BATU TERENG
Liang Petang cave is located in the village of Batu Tereng 29 km south of Sumbawa Besar. With its stalagmites and stalactites, it is a fascinating natural phenomenon; some resembles a weaving loom. The other cave in the area is the home for hundred of fruit bats. Also in this area of Ai Renung are sarcophagi, stone graves built 2000 years ago.

BUNGIN ISLAND

Located near Alas in north-west Sumbawa Bungin island is the most densely populated island in the world, it is built from coral and sand and there is almost no vacant land. The island inhabited by Bajo people. And its area is becoming larger as the inhabitants extend the island as the population increases.

MOYO ISLAND
Moyo island has a huge animal reserve where sightings of animals such as wild boar, deer and majestic looking birds are common. With its crystal clear waters and spectacular coral formation, Moyo island offers great snorkeling and diving opportunities. Stay in the very upmarket Amanwana resort with its luxury tents. Travel to the island by boat from Kencana Bay or Air Bari north of Sumbawa Besar.

PLAMPANG AND EMPANG
Eastern Sumbawa Regency has interesting farmlands, hills and aquaculture. Beaches with good waves for surfing exist on the southern coast.

SULTAN’S PALACE (DALAM LOKA)

Located in Sumbawa Besar, the sultan palace possesses some ancient structures which belonged to the sultanate of Sumbawa. These majestic buildings are of traditional design and have ninety-nine wooden pillars to remind all flowers of Asmaul Husna of the ninety nine names.
